An important announcement regarding the future of PM/2

PM/2 Practice Management Systems Inc., the corporate owner of PM/2 Software, will be going out of business on December 31, 2018.

This decision, which has been carefully considered over an extended period of time, is made necessary by a number of factors:

  • Declining sales of PM/2 products

  • Changing market demands in the psychiatric software marketplace

  • Aging and health issues for key corporate staff

  • Need for major product overhauls to deal with new regulations on electronic prescribing and electronic medical records

Regrettably, we simply do not have the staff, or the means to hire external staff, to bring PM/2 into line with the requirements of the present day.  And no buyer or outside investor has emerged who might have enabled PM/2 to continue operations.

What does this mean to you as a PM/2 customer?

  1. You may continue to use your licensed PM/2 products as long as you wish.

  2. No further updates of PM/2 for Windows will be produced.

  3. Your usual level of customer support will be available through the end of 2018. After December 31, 2018, no further technical support will be available.  Therefore, it is in your best interest to pick a new software vendor soon.

  4. We do not recommend any specific replacement software vendors.  We do note, however, that several e-prescribing packages, whose use is already mandatory in many areas, offer good practice management modules along with their e-prescribing functionality.  If you are not already an e-prescriber, please note that all of your PM/2 patient demographics are stored in the file c:\pm2w\rel36a\data\patients.dbf -- just upload this file, securely, to the e-prescribing company of your choice and they should be able to set you up on their system without any need  for you to key in your data all over again.

It has been good working with many of you over the years since 1989, and I wish you all the best. It is difficult to say goodbye, but sometimes it is necessary to do so: and this is such an occasion. Best wishes to you all!

Sincerely,

Richard D. Kaplan, MD, President
